BIBLE TEXT:2 Peter 1:3-4:

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”

PERSONAL REFLECTION: The phrase that got most of my attention in this passage is “has given.” Power is something that godly and ungodly people alike seek daily. But what we fail to realize is that through Christ, we already possess power. The Bible clearly states that He has already promised it to us. It’s not something we have to earn or strive for; it’s already there. The power to get through life is already within us. The power to escape the imprisonment of the world is already within our grasp. So what is keeping us from using it?

PERSONAL APPLICATION: Three weeks ago, I went to Panama City with the youth group, and on the last night, Reggie Dabbs (our camp speaker) had us pray for several things. One of the things we prayed for was God’s power. I prayed for it like I didn’t yet have it. But now, after reading this passage, I realize that I had it all along. It was a gift already given to me. I just had to open it and look inside. I felt it that night. I saw it. And because of it, I knew Him even more personally than before.

PRAYER: God, I just want to thank you for the gift you have already given to each of your children. I ask that right now you help us in realizing that gift is in our possession. Help us to have the will to open it and use it to escape the world. Help us to use it for your glory. We thank you that because of your power we are able to grow more intimate in our relationship with you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: My name is Brianna Mercedes Good. I have two siblings: an older brother and a younger sister. I just graduated from Mt. Juliet High School and am now eagerly awaiting the beginning of my college adventure at Lipscomb University. I plan on studying biology, so I can go on to veterinary school. I’m not a hobby kind of person. My interests include Jesus, animals, reading, and sleeping into all hours of the afternoon. Oh… and I laugh. A lot.
