BIBLE TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 5:18: Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Wearily, I climbed into the van after a quick stop for groceries on the way home. It had been a long day with our homeschool tutorial and I was ready to relax at home. As I backed up the van, my daughter informed me she had left my iPad in a drawer at the church where we meet. I was a little upset she had been irresponsible with it and not happy at having to drive back to retrieve it.
As I drove and grumbled to myself, I could hear God’s gentle voice telling me, “it’s just an iPad, don’t be so upset, show love,” but I ignored Him and kept up my complaining. Suddenly, I noticed a black car coming all too quickly, pulling out from a side street. I hoped it would stop, but no. As the car proceeded to pull out in front of us, the driver received the full blare of my horn. Thankfully, the sound of the horn was the only blow they received from our large van.
As we finished the remainder of the short distance back to the church, I thanked God for protecting us from an accident. I thanked Him my daughter remembered the iPad before we made it all the way home. I thanked Him the church office was still open when we got there. I thanked Him for… well, you get the idea.
How about you? What in your life can you choose to be thankful for today – among everything you may have going on?
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to react and speak from a heart of thankfulness.
