BIBLE TEXT: “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:34 NLT)
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)
PERSONAL REFLECTION: My son had a dentist appointment last week and every day leading up to the appointment he would ask, “Is tomorrow when I have to go to the dentist?” He worried about it so much that I finally told him that God tells us not to worry about tomorrow. He didn’t believe me so I got my Bible out and read him Matthew 6:34. The problem with that was that I wasn’t listening to the verse myself. Our family is about to pack up our home and move to an unfamiliar place away from friends and further from our families, and I admit I worry. I worried about tomorrow, and the next day, and even the one after that. I was terrified of the unknown. But as I prayed about what to write for this devotional God reminded me of Jeremiah 29:11. He knows His plans for me. It may be the unknown for me and that’s what I am most afraid of, but the truth is He has gone before me, prepared the way, and He KNOWS.
PERSONAL APPLICATION: We may not know the plans God has for us. We may not understand them, but He tells us not to worry about them. He promises that His plans for us are for good and He gives us a future and a hope. So our unknown may be a little scary, but if our creator knows the plans and designed them Himself we have no reason to be afraid or to worry about our tomorrow. So today I am ready for the unknown known plans of my King.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for your word. Thank you for that gentle reminder that we do not need to worry, the reminder that you created these plans for our lives and that you want good for us. Help us to walk into our unknown without fear or worry, knowing that it is your known, your design. Help us to use this new journey for your kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen.
