The Hope Rope: Powerless, Never Hopeless

BIBLE TEXT:   Romans 4:18:  “Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations.”

PERSONAL REFLECTION:
When things seem at their worst, when you have come to the end of yourself, this is when we become our created purpose. When we dig into the storehouse of hope within us–when we find ourselves in the bottom of the pit of life–is when we define our legacy in life and the life to come. In the busy day-in, day-outs of life, the routine rhythm overtakes us and there is no change from the status quo. It is those times when hope is lying dormant in our lives. You may gradually feed it milk along the way, but in the end, the only time we access hope is when we find ourselves powerless to change the circumstances in our lives.

I had to correct someone recently who made the statement to me that they were hopeless, that the situation they found themselves in was hopeless. I said to them, “We are never hopeless. In fact, hope is the only consistency believers have. We may be powerless to change the circumstance or the person, but we always have hope.”

When I went through the desert experience of financial loss in my life, there were 6 power words that changed my life: EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT.  Why do those words hold such value to me today? Those words resurrected the dead HOPE in my life where there seemed to be no hope. I lost sight of tomorrow because my problems of today were so overwhelming. The circumstances in my life had depleted what seemed to be an already empty tank of hope. But here is the thing about hope.  It is like fusion, it can increase exponentially, and the catalyst is from the spark of encouragement. Encouragement is to hope, like uranium is to the atom. Those six words ignited in me enough hope to continue… to get out of bed the next day.

Our focal passage today says that when there seemed to be no hope, in HOPE, Abraham believed and it was counted to him as “righteousness.” Do you expect excellence in life? Do you strive for greatness? Hope is the key that unlocks those doors. When things seem the most hopeless is when we find our inner life, our true self, our future, our tomorrows. Why do people end their lives? Why do some see their lives as a waste? Because they have lost all HOPE. Life can seem hopeless and not worth living. We let the enemy torment us in our thought life and steal our hope. Take HOPE back! Everything is going to be alright! We have already overcome this world.

PERSONAL APPLICATION:
When you’re at the end of the HOPE ROPE, tie a knot and hang on! Tomorrow will be better than today! Things will change. Count on that fact. The hope that lies within us is the hope of GLORY.

PRAYER:
Oh God, fill our spirit tanks with MORE hope as we give hope to others with the encouraging words of life!
