BIBLE TEXT: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. (James 5:16 NLT)
PERSONAL REFLECTION: I have noticed something that I’m trying to correct in my prayer life. I tend to pray broad, hesitant prayers. I’ve had to ask myself why. Is it because I’m scared that my faith is too fragile? That it might waiver if God didn’t answer a specific prayer? I know God wants to build my faith. He’s proven that to me time after time. I have come to realize though how hard I make it for Him to dazzle me with His omnipotence if I don’t make my requests explicit.
The great prayers of the Bible were specific. My name sake, Joshua, prayed for the sun to stand still in the sky until a battle was over and it did. Solomon prayed for wisdom and God made him the wisest. Elijah prayed that it would not rain for three and a half years and his prayer was granted.
I have to learn to ask in specifics because He is a God of wonders. I have learned that the size of my prayer is equal to the size of my faith in Him.
PRAYER: Father God, I ask You to work in my heart and my life so that I am more consistently and persistently praying prayers that are specific and gutsy — prayers that are all about moving mountains for Your glory.
