Thankful Hearts

BIBLE TEXT:    Psalm 28:7: The Lord is my strength and shield.  I trust him with all my heart.  He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.  I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: No doubt fatigue and warfare go hand in hand.  You can’t have a real fight and not experience some level of weakness and need for strength.  I question how much of a fight you’ve really been in if you come out all pretty, without any dirt on your knees, and no blood on your knuckles.

Sometimes in a fight the bullets and fists are flying so fast that all you can do is duck your head and get down behind the shield of faith and the Lord.  You can’t quote a scripture, sing a song, or even remember your own name when you get in a battle for your life like this.  I was in a battle for my physical life last December, and all I remember praying to God was “I don’t want to die.”  Your spiritual response plan to pressure had better already be in place beforehand or your knees will buckle and you’ll fall like a box of rocks.  What are you going do if you get in that kind of battle today?

Pressure creates many different materials and umpteen situations.  One outcome is guaranteed. When the pressure gets high enough, something or someone is going to burst.  Whatever is inside of you will come out–ready or not.  Pressure will create things in you, change you, work you over, make diamonds or dust out of you.

Now is the time to make God your “go to” for help.  Now is the time to study the Word of God and get it in your spirit–before the arrows are lit.  Now is the time to make your plan to trust and praise God no matter what.  Now is the time to become resolute in your praise.

I read a quote today that said, “It’s hard to be thankful for what you feel entitled to.”  In this the thanksgiving season, may your heart be filled with joy as you think and dwell on the ways God has helped you.  My hope is that you become resolute in the fact that “God has always been good,” and every time He has come to your rescue it’s been a blessing!  My prayer for you is that you humbly “burst out in songs of thanksgiving” because you’ve made a decision to remember His goodness in your life.

PRAYER: God, we remember how good you’ve been to us this year and we are thankful!   We praise you because you are always good and you never make mistakes concerning us.  We honor you and realize that every day is a blessing and every moment we enjoy is a gift.  We trust you with all of our heart!
