Oh, Taste and See!

BIBLE TEXT:  Psalm 34:8:  “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”

PERSONAL REFLECTION:  What an amazing promise of God.  In the Hebrew the words “taste” and “see” mean to perceive, to inspect, to discern, and to distinguish.  It is with diligence that we need to taste and see that the Lord is good.  There are many times in our lives when bad things happen.  We think the road is hard and we focus on the negative side instead of looking for the good of God.  Yes, the road can be hard and some days our emotions are not where we want them to be.  But the last part of the verse states that we will be blessed if we take refuge in the Lord.

PERSONAL APPLICATION:   Most of you know that I lost my husband last year.  Of course, it was a very difficult time and there were times along the way that I wanted to give up and just not breathe any more.  Sometimes it seemed as if the breath wouldn’t come and it was an act of my will to breathe.  But now, in looking back, I see how God has brought me through and is continually bringing me through one of the most devastating times of my life.  I believe He is doing that because I am taking refuge in Him and His love for me.

PRAYER:  Father, thank You for the blessings You give us when we taste and see that You are good and when we take refuge in You.  We are blessed beyond measure by Your love and You are good!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
