BIBLE TEXT: Isaiah 9:1-2: “Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness a light will shine.

The people who walk in darkness
    will see a great light.
For those who live in a land of deep darkness,
    a light will shine.”

PERSONAL REFLECTION:  Anyone can see that the world we live in is filled with uncertainty and unfortunately a good amount of perceived hopelessness. I know many of you are dealing with truly difficult and uncomfortable situations as we all do from time to time. The important thing to remember is that we all face these things and can get through them together. This whole chapter speaks about the hope that is coming for the people of God. We often find ourselves feeling hopeless when issues are beyond our control and it becomes so easy to slip into depression thinking that there’s nothing we can do. The good news of the gospel is that this incredible hope, the light for those trapped in the darkness that Isaiah talks about, has already come. We spend so much time wondering where hope will come from and forgetting that our hope has been here since the very beginning. This prophecy is about the coming of Jesus and the peace that He brings with Him. So please remember when the struggles of this world come against us and seem out of control that the victory has already been won and we are free.

Prayer: Lord, we come to you because we know who you are. We put our trust in you and believe you are the hope of your people. We ask that you help us to live in the hope you provide.
