BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 7:13-14:
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (NIV)
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Church is changing. I recently asked my daughters what church would look like in their generation. My question to them and to you is birthed in the fact that church has certainly changed for me. I guess each generation can say the same thing, but I have had opportunity to attend a couple of other “churches” lately. In one, they bus people in for an occasional shot of Jesus Juice for an hour, then bus them back out an hour later. The old advertising slogan for a popular beverage best describes the current state of the body of Christ, “everything you’ve always wanted…and less.” That old time religion has morphed into Lite Christianity. I find myself in a place where I just cannot flourish with great taste and less filling. I have to have MORE. I find myself meditating on this Bible text; a small gate will allow only one person to pass through at a time. We will answer for what we have done on this earth both good and bad and we will answer…individually!
PERSONAL APPLICATION (if applicable): I want it all. I want it all and I want it now! I want my life to be constantly moving and leading others towards that small gate (face-in-his-book with Jesus as my friend). Church, home, work…MORE filling.
PRAYER: Father, I have tasted your new wine. Fill me with MORE of your spirit! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
