BIBLE TEXT: 2 Corinthians 10:5: “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God.”
PERSONAL REFLECTION: I was sitting at Super Cuts reading a devotional on my phone when this verse came up. This is one of those verses that as I read it I had to take time to reflect, to think. In 2017 we live in a culture and society where people are asking questions and seeking the answers to those questions. The problem becomes when people, as they search for answers, think Jesus is not an option as a possible answer. Whether it is issues with our government or issues in one’s own household, we all are searching for something. We long to find the answers to the problems we are dealing with in our day to day life. So why and how have we gotten to the point to where we are not finding the answers and believe Jesus will never be the answer we are seeking? The application to this devotional might just shock you.
PERSONAL APPLICATION: I want to challenge you to rethink, redesign, and rebuild your mentality on how you execute your faith. My challenge to you is this: I believe people are not giving Jesus a chance because the people of God are not acting the same way Jesus acted. When you pay attention to the gospel and see Jesus act you see a drastic contrast to 2017 Christians. I am not talking about Jesus the Savior, although that is the most important aspect, but Jesus the character — how He acted, how He carried Himself, how He treated others. Jesus, even in the midst of his deepest haters, cared for them. He had compassion, love, and grace for all walks of life, even those who disagreed with Him. We, as Christ followers in 2017, truly need to study the characteristics of Jesus and then mimic them in our community. The gospel shows that because of how Jesus acted people from all over ran, not walked, to Him. Our culture thinks the answer is in the power of government or science or the human will/race and that God has never been and will never be the answer for what this county and world needs. If we truly begin to act in the manner Christ acted some 2,000 years ago and in the manner the disciples acted in the book of Acts, all other options will fall to the waste and our community will see the answer that has always been and will always be: Christ Jesus.
Stay Focused. Stay Strong. Stay Committed.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, my prayer for myself and all who read this is simple. Let us begin to study the character of who Jesus is. Let us begin day by day acting in a manner that mimics Him so that we can began to shine the light of who You are into the darkness of our community. May You always receive the glory. May Your will be done through us. In Christ Jesus we pray, Amen.
