BIBLE TEXT: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” – Isaiah 43:2
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Hubert and I went on a canoe trip with our Life Group this past weekend. (By the way, if you have not joined a Life Group you’re missing out.) It was a gorgeous day with great people. A couple of our canoes toppled over, but hey, what’s the fun in a canoe trip if someone doesn’t tip over, right?
I’ll be the first to admit that Hubert and I are not the most experienced canoers (is that a word, Pastor Andrew?), but we know enough not to get into too much trouble. The current of the river was strong that day and if we weren’t traveling along with it, paddling became hard work.
At one point Hubert, who was sitting behind me on our canoe, told me, “You have to paddle with me. It’s a lot harder to navigate the canoe when we are not in sync.” That statement could be the centerpiece for two other devotionals but here’s what I feel led to tell you today. When Hubert and I were “in sync” with the current it was easy, and we could simply let the current take our canoe along. As a result, we were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. It was peaceful, splendid, blissful, and lovely.
Life can be hard to traverse when we are not in sync with the Navigator and we get off His current. Our ways are not His ways. When we insist on our way, it leads to confusion and often times to a dead end. The Navigator though wants to lead us. He is simply waiting for us to let Him. How easy and how delightful it is when we are in sync with Him and we paddle together! Our perspective changes and, in turn, everything else changes too!
PERSONAL APPLICATION: Let the current of the river take you. Trust Him. Take a deep breath, let go, and believe Him. His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
PRAYER: Lord, you are peace and you are love. I choose you as my Navigator. I surrender and ask you to please forgive my sins today and every day. I choose you for the rest of my life. Thank you for your salvation through Jesus Christ and for making a way for me.
In Your Son’s Precious Name I pray, Amen.
