BIBLE TEXT: 2 Timothy 3:16-17: All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: There are always events in our lives that test our character. We have decisions to make and a choice in which direction we will go in difficult situations. I’ve got to be honest, my natural flesh told me to fight. It told me to retaliate and get revenge. (I say this in transparency, knowing that every person reading this has been here before). But God did the miraculous!! God used my once violent and angry husband to calm my spirit and keep me grounded in the supernatural choice of forgiveness in Christ.
For the many of you that know my husband’s testimony you understand that there was a time that, when faced with confrontation, he would not have backed down gracefully. In the past, the outcome of any confrontation would have resulted badly for the other person. Over the past 10 years though my wonderful husband has drawn closer to God, prayed his way through many bad scenarios, and has been refined through the Word of God making each day better that the last. It was recently pointed out by a wise friend that to walk away from the fight was THE VICTORY — the victory over his past and the victory over the enemy’s feeble attempt to destroy! He is becoming the true example of a spiritual leader that a man should be. In turn, because of his growth, he has blessed me with wise counsel through the issues we have faced and held me close to Christ when my flesh wanted to fail.
PERSONAL APPLICATION: Choosing the path of righteousness is HARD, but God’s promise prevails and He is faithful to justify on our behalf so that we can be free to forgive, bless, and move on. 2 Timothy 3 shows us that God’s word offers all we need for any battle that may come our way. Reading His word and staying faithful in prayer are tools He gives us so that we are prepared to react in the way that would be pleasing to Him rather than in a sinful way. The Word corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. THIS is what we are called to do to be in God’s perfect will. We are not called to be perfect. We are called to be changed. We are called to be improved into His image a little more each day. We are called to repent and to choose the behavior and actions that glorify His name.
PRAYER: Lord, today I am thankful for my husband and the man that you are refining him to be. He not only has grown so much in You over the years but he is being the spiritual leader that our family needs him to be. We are imperfect and may not always choose the righteous path, but each day can be better through prayer and relationship with You. Each day can be an improvement over the last and Your guidance leads us to better choices, which in turn leads us to be a better example of You to others. We love you, Lord, and leave our lives at Your feet, humbling our hearts and accepting your wise counsel through Your Word. Thank You for my “new and improved” husband. Amen.
