Hustle, Bustle, and Tussle

andrew W. DITLBY:  Pastor Andrew Wharton

BIBLE TEXT:  Luke 2:7 (NLT):  She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.”

PERSONAL REFLECTION:  Here we are and yet another holiday season.  I wanted to write a devotional at the beginning of this particular season and on this Friday night of “Black Friday.”  Today the hustle began.  Lines of people, cars, and traffic were the order of the day.  Sales were abundant and around every corner crowds were always expected.  Clearly if you don’t hustle, you won’t get what you think you need or the bargain.  For the next 28 days, you’re gonna be hustling.

Our Christmas journey bustle finds us with family, at parties, caroling, sledding (hopefully), sipping on Christmas lattés from Starbucks, and the bustle list goes on and on.

I find this time of year there is also a tussle.  That tussle emerges due to the hustle and bustle of the season. The tussle is that I often fail to keep the manger and Christ at the forefront of it all.  So this is nothing more than a reminder from your friendly pastor.  DO NOT let the hustle and bustle keep you away form the story, the reason, the Person we all love so much.

Enjoy the holiday season!!!

PERSONAL APPLICATION: By the way, try serving or doing more good works while you are involved in the hustle and bustle.

PRAYER:  Lord, may this season of Christmas be the one that I choose to put You first in every aspect of it.  If need be may I change traditions to use this season to draw closer to You.
