BIBLE TEXT: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” –Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
PERSONAL REFLECTION: About three years ago Justin and I were looking to invest in a larger home for our growing family. We knew what “WE” had in mind and we set out looking for it. A property owner had brought a new home that had the right amount of space and was on a corner lot so we went to talk with her about walking through it. In our eyes it was “perfect” but we soon found out that it wasn’t really the perfect fit when it came to the price tag. Our property manager was always on the lookout for us and about 6 months later she had a family that moved out of a very nice home that just happened to be on a corner lot, BUT it wasn’t a “brand new” home or one we could personalize the way we wanted. The home, however, was within our price range and by then we really wanted to move because our place just wasn’t working any longer.
I soon began to wonder what God’s plans were for where He directed us to live. Within a few months we got to know our neighbors really well and within the last year we have all grown close. We have gone for nightly walks and talked about many things that have happened in our lives and I realized just “why” God put us in this particular home. My neighbor and I have both gone through the loss of a unborn child and I was the one able to reach out to her and share God’s word and how I was able to make it through that my terrible loss.
PERSONAL APPLICATION: We often wonder what God’s plans are or the reason for His plans. But God will never put us in a situation that will put us in harm’s way. God has great hopes and expectations for our future. We will all question why He does what He does but remember He does things for a greater reason.
PRAYER: Lord, I pray for your guidance to accept the plans you have for me even if they are not what I think they should be. Guide me to walk the path you have in mind for my future while sharing your word and grace to others.
