Here I Am. Send Me.

BIBLE TEXT: Isaiah 6:8 – “Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.” (NLT)

PERSONAL REFLECTION:  I am allowing myself to be completely surrendered to God for the first time in my 40 years. I have always felt the need to control things in my life and try to get things lined up the way “I” think they should be…and I wonder why life is so hard sometimes and lacks the joy I hear others and the Bible talk about. It is truly an amazing feeling that for the first time I don’t want to be in control. I want to have surprises from God. I don’t want to know the whole plan, just the next step. I want the Great Adventure.

It all started with my recent trip to Bolivia. For those who don’t know me, that was way out of my comfort (and control) zone. Signing up for the trip was the first step of allowing God to navigate my life. I don’t like to fly. I feared getting sick from unknown food sources. I feared others getting to know me too well in such tight quarters and being around one another for 10 days. However, God confirmed I was to go on the trip and I had a bigger fear than any of those I just mentioned – I feared life would stay the same if I didn’t go and be obedient. So, I went. But I didn’t just go, I went with expectations. I wanted a great adventure. I wanted to meet and experience God like never before. I wanted to be used by God. Did all these things happen? Yes, and so much more. I am in a process with God like never before and I am so excited to see where it will go. Do I know where, even tomorrow? Do I have control over it? No and no – and I love this feeling. I want to be surprised by God. I want to be used by God. I don’t want control anymore. This change came by being obedient and saying “Here I am. Send me.”

PERSONAL APPLICATION:  Saying “Here I am. Send me” is not an easy thing to do and unnatural for a lot of people. However, the only true way for us to ever do the will of God is to allow Him total control of our lives. When we look to him for direction, guidance, words, wisdom, and knowledge we can’t get out of His will. When we are in His will we are working for His kingdom. What more could we want?

PRAYERFather God, thank You for not giving up on me. Thank You for allowing me to experience You like never before. Forgive me Lord for all the times I wasn’t obedient and missed beautiful moments with You. I cannot do anything of worth without You leading and guiding me. Here I am Lord – I want to go where You want me to go and do what You want me to do. Send me. Amen.
