BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 11:28-30: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
PERSONAL REFLECTION: The past few weeks of my life have been non-stop between school, work, and music. I seem to run out of hours in the day. While I was reading one night, this verse seemed to jump out at me. This verse is Jesus saying: “Come here when you are tired, weak, exhausted, mentally frustrated, disheartened, and afraid. Come to me and I will give you rest.” (The Seth Wharton interpretation) This next part is really what gets me though: “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Wow. God wants us to learn how to be comfortable with where we are no matter what the situation is. He wants to give us peace. God is GENTLE. The last part of this passage we’ve all heard before, but oh, just how true it is: “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” We serve a God who loves us. When we need a break all we have to do is ask.
PRAYER: God I pray that you would teach me how to love like you. God show me how to handle the burdens of this world and teach me that through you all things are possible. I know that you are with me and that is why I am asking you to help me. I need you. I need rest. Comfort me and give me peace. Amen.
