BIBLE TEXT:  Matthew 25:24-27:   Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. “Master,” he said, “I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.” His master replied, “You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.”

PERSONAL REFLECTION:  Jesus has called us to be risk takers!  That doesn’t mean that He wants us to head to Vegas with the deed to the house and let it all ride on red.  It means that He doesn’t want us to sit on the sidelines.  He wants us to get involved with people and ministries and church.  Is it a risk to go down to LP Field and hand out hot dogs so we can tell people about Jesus and what He did for us on the cross?  It sure is!  People might laugh or call you names.  They might even throw a beer at you – but it’s the kind of risk God wants us to take.  Is it a risk to head to Bolivia, or Cuba, or to the Nashville Mission and demonstrate God’s love by feeding someone or building them a bed – you bet it is!  But it’s the kind of risk God wants you to take.

Jesus didn’t tell Peter to stay in the boat where it was safe.  He told him to step out into the water when the wind was blowing and the waves were crashing.  He wants you to take some risks for Him as well.  Maybe that’s going to Bolivia for the first time.  Maybe it’s going to help build a ramp.  Maybe it’s working in the nursery.  Or maybe it’s telling your boss about the Savior of the world and what He’s done for you – even at the risk you might get fired.  Make 2014 a year of risk for Jesus.  I promise the reward is worth the risk!

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, open my eyes to see the risks you would have me take this year.  Lord, I know that it’s not really a risk when You are the author of it, so give me the courage to act. I ask and pray this in Jesus name.  Amen.

On a mission’s trip to Bolivia several years ago, Justin was broken for the people of God in a way that can only happen on such a trip.  After that experience, and several like it, Justin began seeking God’s will more intensely and it has led him to begin the process of entering the mission’s field full-time.  Until that time comes, he continues to operate Henry Brothers, a roofing and construction business.
