BIBLE TEXT: 1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.”
PERSONAL REFLECTION: When I was 14 years old, I went on a canoeing trip with my youth group. It was all fun and games until me and my friend’s canoe hit something and tipped our canoe over. For some reason, I don’t know why to this day, I did not have on a life vest and the current was so strong that it pulled me under a lot of brush that was under the water and I could not get out. I remember struggling to get out, freaking out, unable to breathe and no matter how hard I tried to get out, to get myself to air, I couldn’t and I’d slip further and further under the branches and brush. I struggled and struggled. When I was almost out of air I thought to myself, “This is it; make sure you are right with the Lord.” I remember praying, “God, I love you and please take away all my sin so that I can stay with you in Heaven. I give it all to You.” I don’t remember much after that except coming to on the bank of the river. I learned a valuable lesson that I will carry with me the rest of my life.
PERSONAL APPLICATION: When we are struggling and there seems no way out, GIVE IT TO GOD FIRST! Don’t wait until you are at the end of your rope and have struggled with it and messed it up worse than it was in the first place. Cast your cares, your anxieties, your fears, your dreams that seem impossible, everything on Him. He cares for us more than even WE yearn to take care of ourselves. Short and sweet… Give it all to Him.
PRAYER: Dear God, I commit to giving you my all… not only my life, my talents, and time, but also my concerns and worries. God, I lay it all down at your feet, confident that You know what’s best for me and will take care of your own. Amen.
