BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 27:4: One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
Revelation 4:6-8: Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.”
PERSONAL REFLECTION: There is just something about a fire that draws us in. I can “gaze” into it for hours. As I get older, like David, I long to gaze at the beauty of the Lord. I have never linked the two verses in such a way. Why would these four creatures be covered with eyes all around and yet their job would be to always proclaim God’s holiness, His beauty, His essence?
I believe they must be covered with so many eyes as to never miss a new essence. He is so beautiful that they need so many eyes to see all of Him! And thus proclaim with each sight of a new essence, HOLY! HOLY! HOLY! His creation screams of His Glory.
PERSONAL APPLICATION: As we approach the spring season, use your two eyes to see the sunrise and sunset, the budding of the trees, the greening of the grass and the foliage of the growth during the spring season. Don’t miss Him – Holy…Holy…Holy!
PRAYER: One thing I ask from you Lord, continue to open my eyes to your BEAUTY, the essence of who you are.
