Exodus 25:30 – “Place the Bread of Presence on the table to remain before me at all times.”
The Lord has brought this passage to my attention many times over the last few months and I never understood why until now. As usual, God’s timing is perfect.
This scripture talks about the Old Testament tabernacle and the articles it contained. The presence of God was in that tabernacle. But, as we all know, we are the tabernacle now. He resides in us once we ask Him into our hearts. God challenged me with the Bread of Presence in my life. The scriptures say that the Bread of Presence was to be made with the finest flour. How do you get fine flour? You beat it and grind it. The more beating and grinding the flour has endured, the finer the flour. Then the flour had to be baked. It had to be exposed to great heat before it was usable for God. Remember that this Bread was unleavened, similar to modern-day crackers. Why unleavened? Leaven makes dough rise. It puffs up. It makes it look bigger than it really should be. Also, the Bread of Presence was replaced every Sabbath. The Bread would sit there all week long, in God’s presence. It had been beaten, burned, and kept in its original form. And each Sabbath, when the priests would replace the bread, they burned incense which was a sweet aroma to the Lord.
The Lord has challenged me to be His bread of presence every day. There are times when my spirit must beat and grind my flesh into submission. I must allow God to purify me with His Holy fire. I cannot allow my selfishness or pride to get in the way. I cannot be “puffed” up. If I offer my life as a living sacrifice of praise, then I will be a sweet aroma to the Lord.
PERSONAL APPLICATION: This is challenging for me because I do not always win my spiritual struggles. Sometime my flesh overpowers my spirit. I need the power of the Holy Spirit in my life in a great way. He has challenged me with this so I am praying each day for strength to be the man He wants me to be.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to prove my love for you by obeying your commandments. Help me to listen to your voice. Give me strength to make my flesh slave to my spirit. I want to be holy. I want to make you proud. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
