BIBLE TEXT: 1 Peter 2:9 (MSG): But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you remember when you were a kid in gym class and it was announced that you would be playing a team sport that day? Do you remember the anticipation of the “drafts?” We all wanted to be chosen. We were all super excited so we listened carefully for our name to be called and a lot of the time, when we were picked, we ran over to join our team and high-fived each other as the team was built one person at a time.
Each player was “chosen” to play, and the success of that team was dependent on all the players working together in the positions they were placed in. They had to be committed, pay attention to the coach, and work together to get the win. If a player didn’t step up and follow through with their role the position wouldn’t be deleted from the game, but the player may have been put on the bench and another chosen to play the position. Either way, the job was going to get done because the coach had a game plan.
We should be excited to be chosen as a player for God’s team. I want to be enthusiastic about the position my Coach has put me in. He has been watching me like a recruiter in the stands. He has seen my weaknesses and he has seen my strengths. He knows from a much better view where I will best be an asset to the game. I want to be committed to the success of my team. I want to play my part to the best of my ability and then I want to be the one standing, listening for my new brothers and sisters to be chosen, and be ready to high-five them when they come join me.
PRAYER: God, please prepare me to play my role to the best of my ability. Please help me see that my commitment to my position on your team (Team Kingdom) and my desire to show up and give my all will be important in your game plan. Please help me remember that when I don’t do what you have chosen me to do, I may miss out on the blessing of being a major player in the win. I love you, Lord, and I want to be the MVP for you!!
